God’s Work in the Wounds

Jacob’s night of wrestling in Genesis is one of Scripture’s most honest portraits of what happens when God breaks us down in order to build us up. Jacob doesn’t emerge victorious in the way we might expect. Rather he emerges limping, marked, and changed. The parts of him that once relied on cunning and self‑protection are stripped away, and only then does he receive a new name and a new future. Sometimes God doesn’t begin by strengthening us, instead He begins by unravelling what we cling to; loosening our grip on the habits, fears, and identities that keep us from becoming who we’re meant to be.

If you find yourself limping right now, you’re standing in holy company. God does not break us to destroy, He breaks us to release: to free us from what holds us back, to deepen our compassion, and to make room for the miracle He intends to work through us. Hold fast, the dawn is coming, and with it, a new name, a new purpose, and a Father who never lets go.
